Route Information: –
Day 1: Kasol to Grahan village
Height: 1,700 m to 2,350 m
Distance: 10 km
Duration: 4-5 hours
The road from Kasol to Grahan is marked through the jungle, following Grahan nalah. It starts from the center of Kasol and continues to the real left nanah. The route is easy to navigate and is often used by villagers. The gradient by being gentle, one can easily cover a long distance in a matter of hours. The trail crosses nalah and continues, before turning abruptly and climbing a steep hill, far from the right bank of the river. One may believe that this is not the right way, but one should not deviate.
Soon, the trees turn into grass and shrubs. One can also see certain fields and see brightly colored sails. These are recreational areas with vendors selling drinks such as tea, omelettes and rhododendron syrup! Rhododendron (also known as buras) grows in frozen forests.
Day 2: Grahan to Min Thach
Height: 2,350 m to 3,400 m
Distance: 7 km
Duration: 4-5 hours
From the camp at Grahan, the route goes north, uphill. The villagers use this method every morning. This is the way to Min Thach. After a short walk, view opens and the guide can point you to Min Thach, Nagaru, and Sar Top on the right. The trail also rises and leads to the forest.
After a while, you enter a dense jungle; a thick canopy allows very little sunlight. The slope becomes steep and the road is confusing in places.
Day 3: Min Thach to Nagaru
Height: 3,400 m to 3,800 m
Distance: 8 km
Duration: 4-6 hours
From Min Thach, as the crow flies, Nagaru seems not far off, but the trail does not go straight to the line; instead, it turns south (facing up the cliffs, to the right) and enters the forest. Depending on the weather, one can find snow here. It is always recommended to start early, as the weather is usually good before noon and the snow is very slippery during the day.
After a short walk, one arrives at another line-by-line – a rock facing a grassy area down in the distance. The mountain range rises to the left (east), on the cliffs, over the sitting Nagaru. The road to Nagaru climbs up this hill and is well marked 100 meters away, after which the tree line ends and leaves pieces of grass and shrubs.
Day 4: Nagaru to Sar Pass to Biskeri Thatch
Distance: 14 km
Duration: 6-8 hours
Get up before it is too late. The previous day’s journey would have familiarized you with today’s long journey – the same routes should be used. The climb to Sar Pass follows a southbound lane and steep in some areas. Feel free to keep moving slowly but steady as you climb the snow to higher ground.
Day 5: Biscuit Thach to Bursary: -
Height: 3,350 m to 2,400 m
Distance: 10 km
Duration: 4-5 hours
From Biskeri, a steep path descends, ending at the left of the stream. After a while, you cross a stream and walk to a place with a fence. The trail ends here, so one has to pass through the area (looking for a broken spot on the fence) to find the trail again, leading to a dense forest.
