What better way than to spend a weekend trekking in Himachal. If you are on a trip to HImachal you should definitely keep the weekend free to go for a trek. You can’t miss out on trekking when going to Himachal, trekking is like a tourist attraction in itself. A few treks that can be done on weekends are –
Beas kund trek –
This trek is very well known as the trek is till the original source where the River Beas connects. It is also well known as it is known that Rishi Vyas would come to this lake to take a bath. The start of the trek is Dhundi which you can reach by taking a bus to Palchan. From Dhundi you have to trek and reach the Palchhani Thatch which will take around two hours. The next day, trek for four km and reach your next stop which is Lohali. The third day is when you reach the Beas Kund which is only five km but takes around seven hours to reach. On the same day you have to return to Lohali and the next day to Dhundi. The trek is easy so you would just require some basic training if you don’t indulge in physical activities on a daily basis.
Prashar Lake trek –
This trek is only for two days but it is the best trek if you want to go for a trek with your family. This trek takes you through various villages and you can experience the different cultures. A temple of Prashar Rishi is situated next to the lake. Kantlu is the start point for the trek. There are no stops in between you trek for five hours and reach Prashar Lake. You spend the night at Prashar lake and the next day you come back to Kantlu. You can reach Kantlu by a private vehicle from Mandi. To reach Mandi you can come by buses from Delhi or Chandigarh. The trek is very simple but preparing yourself a little will be beneficial.
Kuppar Bugyal Trek –
Another two day trek with an altitude of 10,000 ft. If you want to explore the forests of the Himalayas then this trek is apt. You will find different trees like deodar trees, coniferous forests and rhododendrons. With flora you can also find fauna here at Kuppar Bugyal. The main animal you can spot here are bears. This is one of the least analyzed forests in Shimla. From Shimla you can take local buses and get down at Khada Pathar. You can start your trek from Khada Pathar or drive till Giri Ganga and then start trekking from there. There are no water sources on the way so it is advised to carry sufficient water and snacks for your trek. You will need to pack pairs of clothes, water, snacks, torch, raincoat and jackets, medical kit, torch, cap and sunglasses.
Triund Trek –
One of the simplest treks of the Himalayas that you can do by yourself is the Triund trek. This trek is easily accessible from Delhi and Chandigarh. If you just want to relax over the weekend then you should go for this trek. The start point for the trek would be Dharamkot, from there the trek to Triund is only 6 km. You can either camp or book a guest house. There is an option to rent the tents as well but that also should be booked in advance. The weather from March till June is ideal for trekking. The base of this trek is Dharamkot which is near to Mcleodganj. From Mcleodganj you can either walk or take a cab till Dharamkot. To reach Mcleodganj you may take a bus from Chandigarh or Delhi. The nearest airport is the Kangra airport, Patankot airport and at a distance of 170 km away is the Delhi airport. This trek is one of the simplest treks but only when trekking near boulders or rocks you have to be careful as it might be slippery. If you are planning to camp by yourself then don’t forget to carry a tent and sleeping bag. The other essential items you will need are water, food, clothes, trekking shoes, and the most important thing is a medical kit. Other than this if you need to carry your sunglasses, cap and gloves.
