When making a stunning handmade soap wrapper to sell or give as a gift, it needs to look clean and polished.
Not every batch comes out of the mold this way, though. There are different ways to make each paper wrapped soap look its best, whether it has a little soda ash or uneven edges. Here are my top five finishing touches for making soap wraps that look like it was made by a professional.
Heating handmade soap wrappers look stunning
Soda ash forms on the soap when carbon dioxide in the air reacts with lye that hasn’t been turned into handmade soap wrappes. Because of this, the soap has a thin layer of white on top. Soda ash is safe to use, but it can be seen as an annoying pollutant. One of the best ways to get rid of soda ash from soap, especially if it’s deep inside the bar, is to steam it. As you can see from the handmade soap wrappers below, steaming has a big effect. Soap can be steamed either before or after it has been cut. Just put the steamer right on top of the bar of soap and stir it for a few seconds. Right in front of your eyes, the soda ash is breaking up. Soap can get soft when it is steamed, so it is best to put it on a hard surface and let it dry before moving it.
Keep your handmade soap wrappers clean
Yes, you read that right—you can wash your soap! If you don’t have a steamer, this is a great way to make food that would normally be steamed. Handmade soap wrappers a piece of nylon around your finger and put it in a bowl of cold water. With the nylon and water, clean the soda ash away gently. You can also wet a paper towel with cold water and use it to gently “wipe” the soda ash away. The type of soap wraps you use will determine whether you should wash or steam. It would be hard to wash a bar like the Juicy Orange and Sweet Rose bar soap wrappers that has a rough top. Steaming would work much better!
Making your handmade soap wrappers shine
When you use a beveled, the handmade soap wrappers get smooth edges that make it look neat and clean. Just move the bar soap wrappers through the blade in the middle of the beveled. This takes off the corner and leaves a small flat edge. Watch the video below to find out how the Soap Beveller/Shaver works. After the soap has been cut and cured for about a week, the beveled should be used. If the soap is too mild, the edges won’t be clean. When the soap is very hard, it is harder to move it smoothly across the blade. Some paper wrapped soaps like to save the shavings so they can use them in other soaps. They would work great with the technique shown in the Cherry Blossom Glitter Cold Process tutorial. Even though the beveled doesn’t change the soap as much as washing or steaming does, the before and after pictures below show how a small change can make a big difference.
Put shrink paper wrapped soap around your packing
Putting your handmade soap wrappers in a box is a simple way to make it look more professional. There are many ways to paper wrapping for soap, and the one you choose may depend on your style/branding, the bar of soap, and how safe you want the container to be. Paper wrapping for soap you can also wrap your soap in bands instead of shrink wrap. Just put the handmade soap wrappers in the band and heat it with a heat gun. The band will then shrink to fit the soap. Not only do they make your soap look shiny, but they also keep it safe. You can shrink handmade soap wrappers in different shapes and sizes with plastic wrap from the grocery store. Soap wraps, organza bags, jute bags, and wrapping paper are all easy to use and look very professional. Check out the Facebook album Make it Monday: Packaging for more ideas on how to package things.
Pick out the best handmade soap wrappers
A sleek and polished label not only tells people what the soap wrappers are, but it also makes bar soap wrappers look professional and good enough to give as a gift. Labels are things like cigar bands and tags that hang from things. Bramble Berry has a lot of printable templates that make it easy to put labels on a lot of different things. If you want to know how to label the ingredients for cold process soap, you don’t need to look any further. The simple soap made with the Beginner’s Cold Process Kit is changed in a big way by the Summer Cigar Bands. The multicolored Funnel Pour Soap looks fancy with its shrink wrap and soap labels.
Labeling your paper wrapping for soap is a lot of fun because there are so many different ways to do it. One traditional way is to use a ribbon, yarn, or twine to hang a label from your handmade soap wrappers. The result is neat, well-done, and cute.
