On the IELTS Test

The test was designed to assess your ability to speak and speak English.

While the Reading, Listening, and Writing sections of the test are conducted in one session, the Speech Test is conducted separately. In this test, you will communicate with the examiner in person. It can be tested at any time in the week before or after the main test. This is the case for computer tests and paper tests.

The test is usually 11 to 14 minutes long – not too short or too long.

The test will be recorded, which means you can apply for a re -assessment if necessary.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated as per to the following IELTS criteria. Each of them has about 25% of your points.

• Competence and unity – the extent to which you are able to use language to express your thoughts and ideas in a logical way
• Grammar – the use of language in a grammatically correct way, especially sentence structure and tense
• Dictionary – use a wide range of words to describe your thoughts and ideas
• Pronunciation – using the accurate pronunciation of each words (British / American)

Test Structure

As you enter the test room, the introductory session begins. Here the inspector greets you and asks you some questions to confirm your identity. You will also be asked to show your passport or ID.

After that, the main phase of the test begins. It is divided into 3 segments.

• Questions and Answers – 4-5 Minutes
• Talk On the Topic – 1-2 Minutes, With 1 Minute Of General Questions
• Discussion – 4–5 Minutes

How to do an introductory session?

Even if your first conversation with the reviewer doesn’t involve a valid account, it’s a chance to have a first impression! The examiner greets you, introduces you, and asks your name and where you live, and you should speak accordingly.

Some Important Tips for IELTS Speaking Test

Here are some important tips:

• Thank the assessor with “Good Day” or “Good morning”.
• Make sure you say your name and DOB or place of birth exactly as mentioned on your passport / identity card you attached to your document.
• When saying your name, be specific about not giving out additional information about your hometown – just the name of the city and, at most, the name of the state.

A good relationship would be –

• Examiner: Good morning, my name is Alan. What’s your name
• You: Good morning, Denny. My name is Kumari Ankita.
• Test: And where are you from?
• You: I am from Mysore, a city of Karnataka.
• Test: What would you like me to call you at this meeting?
• You: You can only call me by my name, Ankita.

Speech Testing is an Informal Setting

Keep in mind that all of these sessions are comfortable to test your ability to communicate in English. You don’t have to do something or speak officially, as you do in a college interview. Just listen to what the observer has to say and respond calmly.

Language Testing, Not Knowledge

In this IELTS test, the talent to use language is more significant than your understanding of different topics for IELTS test. The examiner will give you higher marks if you can speak at length even if you do not present evidence; you will be given fewer scores if you can quote one or two sentences, even if those sentences have an argumentative argument.
